Why
they were selected:
This selection might be the most controversial of all the selections since
the 1982 Orioles finished 2nd to the Brewers in the AL East by 1 game -
losing the final game of the season after nearly sweeping a final four
game series that would have created a tie.
The Orioles did finish
with the 2nd best record of any team in 1982 in Earl Weavers last year.
In 1979, the Orioles went to a 7th game vs. the Pirates.
In 1980 they won 100 games finishing 2nd to NY and in 1983 won it
all under Joe Altobelli. The
1982 Orioles might have been the best team of the bunch from 1979-1983
because of the emergence of Cal Ripken in his rookie year and a strong
year from Jim Palmer. Palmer
was injured most of 1983.
