Why they were selected:
The 1969-1970 Twins won back-to-back AL West titles and were quickly dispatched in the ALCS 3-0 in both years by Baltimore.  In the 1969 ALCS, the Twins lost two tough 1-run games in Baltimore in games 1 and 2 and the series was all but over.  Jim Caple from ESPN.com and the St. Paul Pioneer Press Dispatch got together with me at the site of the former Metropolitan Stadium to replay one of those games this time in Metropolitan Stadium.  The Twins won 5-1 this time around.

Most of the 1969 Twins were also on the 1965 AL Pennant winning Twins that lost to LA in the series. In comparing the 1965 Twins vs. the 1969 Twins, the 1969 club was a bit better offensively while the 1965 Twins were slightly better pitching wise.  ItŐs a close call either way, but with Harmon Killebrew in a MVP season, a young Rod Carew leading the league in BA and Ron Perranoski the AL fireman of the year, the 1969 team gets the nod.
